RESIDENTIAL TANK DECOMMISSIONS

The Fundamentals
Heating oil tanks are made of metal and, like any buried tin can, will rust over time. It’s not a question of if, but when. To prevent a future fuel release and all the costs that come with it, a tank should be decommissioned as soon as it is taken out of use. An ignored tank will eventually become a leaking tank and can lead to harmful impacts on your home, your health, and the environment.

Our Process
Heating oil tanks can be decommissioned in place by thoroughly cleaning the inside and filling it with gravel or concrete to prevent settling as the tank rusts away over time. If that tank will be in the way of your future addition or egress window, we can also remove it from the ground entirely. In most cases, the decommission can be completed with minimal disruption to your yard; our detailed and diligent crew goes the extra mile to restore the site to it's original condition. Before filling the tank, soil samples are collected to determine if it has leaked before the decommissioning. If no contamination is detected, you have the option of registering the tank decommission with the Oregon DEQ. This provides a letter that No Further Action (NFA) is required, and the voluntary decommission meets DEQ standards. If it has leaked, an additional cleanup or site investigation may be required.

Since our start in 1998, we have provided tank services at thousands of properties in Oregon and southwest Washington and are proud to have decommissioned more tanks than any other service provider in our area. Our commitment to customer service has enabled us to become the industry leader in our field.
